Is Your AC Ready to Take the Heat?

Let’s face it–summertime in Tennessee and Georgia gets pretty hot! AND before the weather gets any more sweltering, you’ll want to make sure your AC system is ready for all that use. Here are a few steps you can take to get it ready:

Check Your Filters
Airflow is an essential part of your air conditioning system, and keeping a clean filter installed is essential for your comfort. When the filter gets clogged, it becomes difficult for air to pass over the system, and it is not uncommon for ice to build up on the coil and cause your entire unit to seize up!

Inspect for Water Damage
Warm air passes over the cooling coil and creates condensation. These beads of moisture develop and can be collected to a drain or pan located beneath the unit. Some pans have a pump system which pushes the water through a pipe and into a drain when water in the pan reaches a certain level. Test to ensure they are working, or you might suffer some water damage. If there is water damage, contact a professional.

Clear Obstructions of Your Outdoor Unit
Give your outdoor unit at least two feet of unobstructed space for proper air flow. Plant growth and other outdoor debris can clog up your unit and cause it to run less effectively.

Maintain Ductwork
Air vents can become easily obstructed or clogged with grime or mold. Consider a duct cleaning and tuneup to prevent inefficiencies. Adjust your ductwork dampers to redirect air to the second floor.
