Prep Your HVAC System for Fall | Air Comfort HVAC

We might still be in the dog days of summer, but autumn will start before we know it! That means it’s a great time to look ahead to fall maintenance. Air Comfort HVAC has a few tips to help you get your home ready for those cooler months to come.

HVAC systems require proper maintenance at regular intervals. That means you are proactive and take preventative care before the heating system kicks in.

Clear out the debris.
Your outdoor HVAC unit takes a beating all year long. By the end of summer, it’s covered with grime, leaves, twigs and pollen. All of that debris obstructs airflow to the interior of your HVAC system. It’s a smart idea to clear away all of that debris from your unit in September.

Change out the air filter.
We’ll never stop reminding you to do this. Air filters get dirty every summer as the HVAC system is usually running all day, every day through the Georgia and Tennessee summer. Because a dirty air filter obstructs airflow, makes your furnace work harder, and costs you more money, it’s imperative that you change the filter before fall sets in.

Check the Insulation.
Have your energy bills been higher than usual this summer? An insulation issue may be the culprit. You can have a technician perform an insulation check with your next maintenance inspection.

Schedule preventative maintenance.
Speaking of maintenance, you want to schedule an inspection for autumn. This will ensure that your furnace is ready to go for the cold months ahead. Plus, you’ll avoid any unpleasant breakdowns between September and April.

Ensure your unit is level.
Summer can damage the pads your HVAC unit rests upon. That means that by summer’s end, your system may no longer be on level ground. An imbalance may lead to non-uniform lubrication in the compressor and an eventual burn out.

Here’s a handy checklist you might want to check out!
