Save Money This Summer On Your Electric Bills | Air Comfort HVAC

Ah, summertime… is there anything better? We know the heat can be sweltering, and the electricity bills can run high, so Air Comfort HVAC has put together some tips for you to keep the bills down–and keep comfortable too!

  • Aim to set your AC thermostat as high as is comfortable for you and your family. You can use a smart thermostat to adjust the temperature higher when you’re sleeping or away from the house.

  • Be sure to get your cooling system tuned twice a year and clean or replace the filters each month.

  • Keep your blinds and windows closed during the day to block out the heat of the sun.

  • If you need to supplement your cooling system, fans are typically cost-effective additions to keep cool.

  • Try to run your dryer and dishwasher at night when the days are especially hot.

  • Wash your clothes in cold water and clean the lint filter in your dryer after each use. Save even more money on laundry.

  • Use your microwave, toaster oven or outdoor grill instead of the oven.

  • Try to avoid using major appliances between 2 and 8 p.m.

  • Set your water heater to 120ºF to avoid burns and save more money.

  • If you have a pool at home, you can try filtering the pool for fewer hours in 30 minute increments each day. You can reduce the time further for as long as the water appears clean. You can also install a timer to precisely control the length of time that the pool pump runs.

  • Always unplug your appliances and electronics when they’re not in use. Electronics like TVs, DVD players and computers should be plugged into power strips and those strips turned off when the items are not in use.

  • Deactivate any extra freezers or refrigerators not in use and avoid using them if they are housed in the outdoors or in a garage during summer.
